Child Abuse Prevention Month 2011
America's children desperately need your help. Most of us are unaware that 1 in 4 girls and 1 in 6 boys will be sexually abused before their 18th birthday.
85 % of these children are abused by someone they or their family knows and trusts.
Sadly, because of the 'taboo' nature along with trauma, fear, shame, misplaced loyalty and distrust associated with abuse, only 10% of victims and survivors ever find the courage to report this crime.
Government statistics estimate that just in 2009 there were 763,000 children that were determined victims of child abuse or neglect. The reality is that childhood abuse has reached national epidemic proportions that affect each and every one of us.
